Looking back on this wild year, we have come to realize that community is one of the greatest gifts we have! Over the next few months we’ll be highlighting members in our Good Movement community that are raising the bar and challenging us to be better, in all aspects of life! This week we’re placing the spotlight on Kate Stephenson. Read on to learn how Kate has overcome multiple injuries and surgeries and is now the strongest she has ever been in her life, and participating in athletic endeavors she never dreamt would be possible!

Kate came to Good Movement studio after undergoing four (yes 4) back surgeries, including two lumbar spinal fusions.  Her experience leading up to and following her surgeries included lack of mobility throughout her entire body, overcompensating in her left leg - which caused weakness in her right leg, and extremely poor posture.  She found Good Movement Studio upon moving to Park City and immediately fell in love with the variety of movement disciplines and appreciated that they offered classes that catered to every stage and age of life!  As she started attending classes more regularly, she noticed that the instructors were very highly educated, knowledgeable, and in tune with what was going on with her body; she later found out they were communicating behind the scenes and collectively pairing her post-surgical physical therapy needs with her exercise and fitness needs.  As Kate says…

“Emma, Anna, and Sandy were continually meeting to discuss my back and collectively deciding what the next goal or focus should be.”

Kate found this approach unlike any she had seen before and was impressed with the way all the instructors worked together to help her become the best version of herself.  She also appreciated how they trained individuals from a whole-body approach, and their ability to provide options for movement modifications or progressions within a larger group fitness setting, saying “All of the Good Movement Studio instructors were able to cater to my unique limitations and needs.”

Today Kate confidently states:

“I am the strongest and leanest I have ever been, doing exercises I never thought I could do.  Training at Good Movement Studio has helped me tap into muscles I never even knew I had and enabled me to do all the things I never thought I’d be able to do again like snowshoe, hike, and ski more days than I have in my entire life!  Without Good Movement Studio in my life I’d be missing out on a strong, warm and welcoming community.  I’d be missing out on continuous improvement, an incredible understanding of my body and it’s potential, and all the wonderful online and in-person classes.”

Wow Kate!  What a story!  If you know Kate please comment below and give her some virtual love and support.  You have come so far, not only in your physical journey but your mental and emotional journey as well.  We could not be more proud to have you as a member of our extraordinary community, and can’t wait to see where you go from here!
